If I had some advice for someone who wants to be a film maker it would be this:
There are plenty of great livings to be had out there! This country doesn't need film makers, it needs engineers, nurses and accountants! But will people listen? Nope! There is this terrible curse that strikes people call creativity! And those struck down with this terrible affliction are doomed to have a never ending imagination that won't let you sleep at night as it come up with another idea. Sometimes the illness spills out an affects other who believe in the idea and are willing to commit times and resources (no, never money) to give credence to the idea until finally the idea is made whole after months or maybe even years of effort. Sure everyone involved has a sense of achievement and fulfilment but was it worth the hassle, stress and investment? Those involved will say of course! But we know better.
Keep you head people, don't fall prey to this insidious affliction - get it out of your system into a script then go buy a big TV on your way to Engineering School.
- Write a script, a really nice one that you think is great and will look amazing on screen.
- Next put that script on a shelf above an empty space. Fill that empty space with a huge 4k Television and a satellite or cable box and a subscription to their movie channels.
- Sit back and relax and enjoy all your money well spent for you have something to show for it.
- Now look at the script on the shelf which is gathering dust and say thank F**k I never made that movie!
