Can you believe next month we'll be half way through the year? How times flies!
If you recall last month our film 'Eyes in the Dark' was showing at the HP Lovecraft Film Festival in the states and whilst we were unsuccessful in winning I was told by Brian Callahan that Eyes in the Dark "got some great reactions from the audience, and quite a few votes in our audience choice ballots. A fine film!"
What more could you want from an Audience other than a good reaction!
We've done a good few tests with the new kit and so far so good. We conducted an interview on Dartmoor in challenging conditions as well as a couple of interior interviews. Good news is the sound kit works very well although the sound sync work flow hasn't quite been pinned down! Pluraleyes 3 which we recently acquired seems to get confused with lots of audio. We put half an hour of material in the time line to synch and it failed to match footage I'd previously synced. When I put this unmatched footage in its own project though it synced just fine though!
Now for the main announcement of this months news. We're in the project planned stage for Blackout Production's first Horror film!! This is quite a popular genre and has wide variety of styles and sub-genres a lot of which we don't like! We find there is too much torture porn these day which started out as snuff movies and became main stream in movies like Saw and more recent Hostel. Why do people want to watch people suffer and in great detail? So we are going to try and make a more cartoon horror which isn't too graphic, has a good level of humor but still has shock factor. Not quite a troma movie and not quite hammer horror but somewhere in-between!

'Rise of the Piranha Queen' will be our attempt at a short horror movie which tells how a pair of nerds take their revenge on society by creating and army of psionically controlled piranha fish to devour all those that stand in their way! It won't be a big budget project at all but we hope it will be fun to do and fun to watch. We have cast all the main parts and the majority of supporting roles, we've also started production on the effects which will be a combination of practical and computer generated. We're now on the hunt for locations and will be have script rehearsals and publicity stills this month before launching a crowd funding campaign at the beginning June. All this is speculative though! Our years of experience have taught us that enthusiasm for a project must go hand in hand with planning not only that, there must be a defined schedule - a finish date for the project. Movie making can be easy if there is a plan and only if everything goes according to plan!
So as you can see things are starting to get busy!
