Well nothing ever sits still. First it's the beginning of the year and thinking of plans for the forth coming months and next minute it's March and a whole wealth of projects is coming out way! So what does 2014 have in store for us?
Fits up is little bit of corporate work with Diddy Films. Nothing too drastic but a chance to help out a social enterprise with some interviews and graphics for a video to go on-line. This is going to give us a bit of capital to invest in some studio sound equipment and, if we think they are worth it, a brushless gimbal rig for DSLR. there are some very reasonable 2-axis kits out now so best get one to see what all the fuss is about.
Next is a very touching film from first time writer and director John Ingam who'll you'll remember played the Shepherd in the the Devon Made Christmas film. John's script "A Dirty Floor" is the touching tale of father and son and how they cope with the illness of dementia in the family. Alex with be the Director of Photography and has been helping John from the script's early drafts - movie making isn't for the faint hearted!
Another project all we can say for now is that it's called LRM. This proves to be a challenging concept narrative to shoot full of potential to create some unique styles so don't expect anything normal!
So to set ourselves up we're going to be doing a kit test in March to figure out the most efficient way of using everything together. We got a new high capacity battery for our 7D DSLR, a shoulder rig, external monitor and a Tascam DR60 sound recorder which is specifically design to send sound directly to the Mic input of DSLRs. Now we're not expecting that to give us perfect sound but it should speed things up in the edit which is always welcome. The bonus of this camera test is that we can use it to enter a competition run by Rode who make the mics we'll be using, we just have to make a behind the scenes video of the their kit in use!
Also in the wings we have the iBook release of our Devon Made Macbeth project. We've had 30,000+ downloads of 'A Christmas Carol' so we hope that in the year where we celebrate Shakespeare's 450 anniversary we might get a few download. We'll post a link when it is available.
And we've started to look at locations for a 2015 feature project. You remember we managed to secure the name 'Night in the Cells' on social media? well we visited the rather grand location of Bodmin Jail and took lots of still. We tend to look at a location first and write a script to the location as that way you can work with know quantity. It'd be great to script a scene on a space station or nuclear submarine but at our level green screen and CG will only be so good and to really sell an image, especially in a feature, you need it to be as believable as possible. Let's see what how the plans shape up!
